What is it?
INPS provides useful information on how to submit a pension claim for workers who have accrued sufficient insurance contributions for pension:
- in Italy;
- in an EU country;
- in a country that applies the EU Social Security Regulations (Switzerland and EEA States).
Who is it aimed at?
Workers who have accrued sufficient insurance contributions for pension in at least two of the following States:
- in the 27 EU member states
(Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Hungary); - in the EEA States
(Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein); - in Switzerland.
Claim
Residents of Italy, enrolled in a social security scheme for private employees managed by INPS, who have also accrued insurance contributions in other EU and/or EEA States (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) or in Switzerland, must submit a claim to INPS:
- for old age;
- for early pension;
- for disability;
- for incapacity and survivors under the EU regime.
Residents in Italy who are not enrolled in any social security scheme managed by INPS, and with insurance contributions also accrued in other EU and/or EEA States (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) or in Switzerland, shall submit a claim to the foreign institutions:
- for old age;
- for early pension;
- for disability;
- incapacity and survivors.
Claims will then be sent directly to the relevant INPS office.
Residents of an EU and/or EEA State (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) or of Switzerland, who have also paid insurance contributions in Italy, shall, as a rule, submit a pension claim under the EU regime to the institution of the place of residence, which will transmit it to INPS.
Further information can be found in INPS Circular no. 164 of 27 December 2011.
A pension claim can be submitted online to INPS using the dedicated service, by logging in with one's own credentials.
Alternatively, claims can be made by:
- Calling the contact centre on +39 803 164 (free from Italian landlines) or +39 06 164 164 from mobile phones.
- Through patronage institutes and intermediaries of the Institute using the online services offered by them.
Processing times of the decision
The ordinary deadline for issuing the measures is set at 30 days under Law no. 241/1990. In some cases the law may set different deadlines.
The table shows the deadlines exceeding thirty days, set by the Institute with a Regulation.
In addition to the processing time, the table also indicates the relevant manager.
