Publication: 13/04/2022

"Opzione donna” is a financial benefit paid, upon claim, to employed and Freelance professionals who, having met by 31 December 2018 the legal requirements, opt for the pension contributory calculation system.

Female workers obtain the right upon expiry of the pension payments after:

  • a 12-month waiting period from the when the requirements have been met, if the pension payments are paid under the dependent workers’ pension schemes;
  • an 18-month waiting period from the when the requirements have been met, if the pension payments are paid under the social security schemes of Freelance professionals.

Female workers in the school sector and the Higher Musical and Dance Artistic Training (AFAM) who meet the requirements can collect the retirement payments starting from 1 September and 1 November 2019, respectively.

The effective date of pension payments cannot in any way occur prior to 30 January 2019.

Female workers who meet the requirements by 31 December 2018 can receive retirement benefits even after the first effective date.

Pension payments require the termination of the employment relationship. However, Freelance professionals are not required to terminate self-employed work activity.

In order to achieve this contributory requirement, the contribution for any type of security paid or credited to the insured individual can be evaluated, without prejudice to the simultaneous requirement to reach a 35-year contribution period net of periods of illness, unemployment and/or equivalent benefits, if required by the pension scheme responsible for pension payments.

The pension is settled exclusively using the rules for calculating the contributory system pursuant to Legislative Decree 180/1997.
