What is it?
For those hiring a domestic worker, the employment contract may be terminated through the termination procedure.
Who is it aimed at?
The termination procedure is available for domestic employers.
How does it work?
From 29 January 2009, communication of termination must be submitted to INPS within five days of the event. The communication is also effective in regard to the competent services, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, INAIL, and the prefecture of the Government’s territorial office.
From 1 April 2011, there is an obligation to provide notice exclusively electronically.
INPS must be notified of the termination online by means of:
- the Domestic Work Box;
- the “Mobile INPS” app (installing it on their smartphone or tablet).
Alternatively, the termination may be carried out by:
- Calling the contact centre on 803 164 (free from Italian landlines) or 06 164 164 from mobile phones.
- Through the online services offered by intermediaries of the Institute.
Processing times of the decision
The ordinary deadline for issuing the decisions is set at 30 days under Law no. 241/1990. In some cases the law may set different deadlines.
