What is it?
The service allows doctors to submit pregnancy or termination of pregnancy certificates online.
Who is it aimed at?
The service is intended for certifying doctors.
How does it work?
Doctors must submit pregnancy and termination certificates online to INPS (Article 21, Italian Legislative Decree no. 151 of 26 March 2001; Testo Unico [Consolidating Act] on maternity and paternity, modified by Italian Legislative Decree no. 179 of 26 August 2016; Digital administration code).
Following the submission of the certificate by the doctor, the worker is no longer required to submit a paper copy to the Institute.
The service makes it possible not only to complete and submit the certificate, but also to view and cancel it.
When completing the form, the doctor must necessarily include the following details:
- the worker’s personal details;
- the week of pregnancy on the date of the examination;
- the estimated date of birth.
In case of termination, the date on which the pregnancy is terminated must also be entered in the certificate.
The certifying doctor must issue the unique certificate number assigned by the system to the worker. They may also provide a paper copy of the medical certificate of pregnancy or termination and the respective submission receipts, excluding the week of pregnancy.
In the event of incorrect submission of a certificate, the doctor can cancel it using the same service.
Cancellation is only permitted before midnight on the day following the date of submission. During this timeframe, the certificate:
- is considered not consolidated;
- cannot give rise to administrative effects.
After this deadline, certificates acquired by the Institute may only be cancelled by submitting a cancellation request to the relevant local INPS office.
The written request must be justified and signed by the certifying doctor. It can be submitted:
- by the doctor;
- by a person they trust, with a proxy;
- by the woman to whom the certificate was issued.
Cancellation is only accepted when errors in the certificate are related to:
- the pregnant woman's personal details;
- her tax identification code.
It is not possible to accept requests for the cancellation of certificates the doctor intends to issue again with a different expected date of birth (Article 21, paragraph 1, Legislative Decree 151/2001).
In the event of cancellation, the INPS office will be responsible for checking and reviewing any benefits provided on the basis of the certificate for which the cancellation request was received, which must then be filed.
The Institute provides assistance via the Contact Center on 803 164 (free from Italian landlines) or 06 164 164 from mobile phones.
