What is it?

The scholarships "Language course in Italy" are grants that cover in part the cost of a foreign language course.

The course of study must be aimed at obtaining the certification of a level of language mastery according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Listen to the podcast "Scholarships an opportunity for young people" on the "INPS on air" channel of the Spreaker platform.

Who is it aimed at?

The competition tender is aimed at children and orphans of:

  • employees and pensioners of the Public Administration enrolled in the Unified Scheme of Credit and Social Benefits (formerly, Credit Fund);
  • pensioners benefiting from the Civil Servants' Pension Scheme (GDP).

How does it work?

Every year, 6,100 scholarships "Language course in Italy" are offered through a competition.

The course shall:

  • take place within a single school year;
  • have a minimum duration of four months;
  • provide for the attendance of at least 60 60-minute-long hours of lesson.

The beneficiary, depending on the level of schooling achieved, will have to take the exam to obtain:

  • a A2, B1 or B2 certification, in case he/she has attended the last two years of primary school and the lower secondary school (middle school);
  • a B1, B2, C1 or C2 certification, if he/she is enrolled in the upper secondary school (high school).

During the same school year, the beneficiary must not benefit or have already benefited from other similar grants, with a value of more than 50% of the amount of the scholarship put up for competition and paid by:

  • INPS;
  • the State;
  • other public or private institutions, in Italy or abroad.

The grant is incompatible similar benefits, as specified in the call for tenders published annually.

The lower the ISEE value of the family unit, the higher the grant payable to the beneficiary will be. The grant will be determined as a percentage of the lowest amount, between the maximum scholarship amount and the cost of the language course.
