What is it?

It is a compensation which is acknowledged for the period of hospital treatment or outpatient/home care.

It is not due if the worker is entitled to receive his/her full payment.

Who is it aimed at?

The Daily Allowance (IG) is due to:

  • insured persons with at least one year of contribution or 52 weekly contributions during the entire working life (Article 3, Law No. 419 of 6 August 1975). Since 1 January 1999, the contribution for compulsory insurance against tuberculosis has been abolished. The contribution requirement is understood to be met in the presence of contributions for the Insurance against Invalidity, Old Age, Survivors (IVS);
  • some categories of public sector workers;
  • some categories of pensioners and holders of allowances;
  • dependent family members of the insured even if they are not insured by INPS.

How does it work?

START DATE AND DURATION

The Daily Allowance (Indennità Giornaliera, IG):

  • starts from the day of the onset of the tuberculosis, even if initially certified as a common illness;
  • is provided throughout the treatment period (until the date of stabilization or healing).

WHAT AM I ENTITLED TO?

The IG is due:

  • for the first 180 days, in full, at the same rates as for the common illness, to those entitled to protection. For the calculation of the allowance, the salary received in the previous month divided by 30 will be considered. In any case, the allowance may not be less than the fixed amount established each year by ministerial decree;
  • after 180 days, it is reduced by the fixed amount established each year by ministerial decree;
  • in a fixed amount to those who are not entitled to protection;
  • reduced by 50% of the fixed amount for “SO” category pension holders;
  • to family members for 50% of the fixed amount.

WITHDRAWAL OF BENEFIT

The Allowance is forfeited in the event of voluntary abandonment of care without a justified reason.

The right to the antituberculosis compensation prescribes within five years.

Claim

REQUIREMENTS

Individuals who suffer from a tuberculosis disease must meet:

  • 52 contributions during their working lives (contribution requirement);
  • certification issued by the legal medical centre of the regionally relevant INPS entity (health requirement).

HOW CAN I CLAIM?

The medical certificates necessary for the recognition of tuberculosis illness must be completed and sent to INPS by the certifying doctor electronically.

The same certification is valid for the Post Sanatorium Allowance (IPS).

The claim can be submitted:

  • online to INPS, through the dedicated service, by logging in with your own credentials (INPS circular no. 45 of 27 March 2012);
  • by contacting the Contact centre via the toll-free number 803.164 (free of charge from landlines) or 06 164.164 (from mobile network, with the tariff applied by the telephone operator);
  • through patronage institutes, using the online services offered by them.

Processing Time for the Measure

The ordinary time limit for issuing measures is set by Law No. 241/1990 at 30 days. In some cases, the law may set different deadlines.

The table shows the deadlines exceeding 30 days, established by the Institute by means of Regulations.

In addition to the deadlines for issuing the measure, the table, also indicates who is responsible for it.
