Allowance for death to survivors

Publication: 04/05/2022

The allowance for death is an economic benefit paid to the surviving spouse of a deceased person enrolled in one of the INPS pension schemes.

The benefit belongs to the surviving spouse of the insured (whose pension is calculated with a pay or mixed system) in the event that, on the date of the deceased's death, there is no right to an indirect pension.

If there is no spouse, allowance is due to the children who comply with the legal requirements.

WHAT AM I ENTITLED TO?

The amount of the death benefit is related to the amount of the contributions paid and is equal to 45 times the amount of IVS contributions paid to the insured in the minimum limit of €22.31 and maximum of €66.93.

REQUIREMENTS

The right to allowance for death is acknowledged on the condition that at least one year of contributions in the relevant pension scheme is paid or credited in the five years prior to the date of the insured's death.

WHEN CAN I CLAIM?

The claim to obtain the allowance in question must be submitted, under penalty of forfeiture, within one year from the date of the insured worker's death.
